President Bola Tinubu has sworn in Professor Joash Amupitan SAN as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), marking the commencement of his tenure as head of the nation’s electoral body.

President Tinubu on Thursday administered the oath of office to the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during an expanded meeting of the National Economic Council at the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja.

The president, during the constitutional exercise, charged the new INEC boss to protect the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral system and strengthen the institutional capacity of the nation’s electoral system.

The appointment of Amupitan followed a unanimous approval by the National Council of State, to which President Tinubu had submitted the nomination.

With his assumption of office, Amupitan inherits key upcoming tasks, including the conduct of the Anambra State governorship election scheduled for early November 2025 and the Federal Capital Territory Area Council election in February 2026.

Others are the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack and Ministers of President Tinubu’s cabinet.
