President Bola Tinubu has sworn in Professor Joash Amupitan SAN as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), marking the commencement of his tenure as head of the nation’s electoral body.

President Tinubu on Thursday administered the oath of office to the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during an expanded meeting of the National Economic Council at the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja.

The president, during the constitutional exercise, charged the new INEC boss to protect the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral system and strengthen the institutional capacity of the nation’s electoral system.

With his assumption of office, Amupitan inherits key upcoming tasks, including the conduct of the Anambra State governorship election scheduled for early November 2025 and the Federal Capital Territory Area Council election in February 2026.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, the Leadership of the National Assembly led by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, Speaker House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, Senate leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, House Member, Julius Ihonbvere.

Others are the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack and Ministers of President Tinubu’s cabinet.
