The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that Nigerian workers who were stranded in the Central African Republic (CAR) have been rescued. Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has withdrawn the proposed Indigeneship Bill from the National Assembly, citing the need for broader consultations and legislative engagements. The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has fixed August 30, 2025, for the conduct of local government elections in the state. Michael Odey, chairman of RSIEC, announced the new date on Monday during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the commission’s headquarters in Port Harcourt. The federal government has mandated banks and financial institutions to begin reporting monthly transactions exceeding N25 million for individuals and N100 million for firms to the tax authorities. Under the new provisions of the Nigerian Tax Act, financial institutions are required to submit quarterly returns to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
