On January 10, some civilians, including members of the Zamfara Community Protection Guard (ZCPG) and vigilantes, were mistakenly killed in an air strike operation by the Nigerian Airforce (NAF) in Tungar Kara, Maradun LGA of the state. The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has announced August 9, 2025, for the conduct of a fresh LGA elections in the state. On February 28, the supreme court nullified the LGA elections held in the state on October 5, 2024.
