The All Progressives Congress (APC) has confirmed Biodun Oyebanji, governor of Ekiti, as its consensus candidate for the 2026 governorship election in the state.

The endorsement was made on Monday during a party meeting in Ado-Ekiti.

Opeyemi Bamidele, senate leader, moved the motion for Oyebanji’s adoption, which was seconded by Stephen Aribasoye, speaker of the Ekiti house of assembly.

In his remarks, Usman Ododo, the chairman of the congress committee, said the affirmation is a reflection of Oyebanji’s giant strides in various sectors which have benefitted the people of Ekiti.

He added that APC remains a party of discipline, which has shown in the trust that Ekiti residents repose in Oyebanji.

The APC national working committee (NWC) had earlier endorsed Oyebanji’s candidacy following the withdrawal of Atinuke Olayemi Omolayo, the only remaining contender after two aspirants — Kayode Ojo and Abimbola Olawumi — were disqualified.

Speaking after participating in the exercise, Oyebanji praised party members for what he described as a show of unity and discipline.

“You can see that our members are happy and united in one accord to exercise their franchise,” he said.

“In all the wards, delegates were elected by consensus — that speaks to the harmony between the leadership and membership of our party.”

The governor said the APC in Ekiti had become stronger and more attractive since he assumed office nearly three years ago.

“In the last three years, we have made the party more appealing to the people,” he said.

“Many from other political parties have joined us because we have delivered on our promises.”

Oyebanji expressed confidence that the APC would achieve a clean sweep at the next election.

“By the grace of God, our target on June 20 next year is to win all 177 wards — a record that has never been achieved in Ekiti state,” he said
