Petrol Hits N1,400/Litre in Abuja Amid Dangote Refinery Ex-Depot Increase

The pump price of petrol in Abuja has climbed to as high as N1,430 per litre, as marketers adjust their prices following an increase in the ex-depot price by the Dangote Petroleum Refinery.

The Dangote refinery raised its ex-depot, or gantry, price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from N1,265 to N1,350 per litre, triggering a fresh round of pump price adjustments across major filling stations in the capital.

On Sunday stations were adjusting prices upward in line with the new benchmark. At MRS filling stations, petrol now sells for N1,395 per litre, up from N1,350. Mobil outlets have raised their pump price to N1,400 per litre, also from N1,350, while NIPCO stations recorded the steepest jump, selling at N1,430 per litre, up from N1,350.

The latest price surge to a combination of rising global crude oil prices and foreign exchange pressures. Brent crude, the international benchmark, has been trading above $100 per barrel in recent weeks, driven partly by supply concerns tied to tensions around the Strait of Hormuz. The elevated crude prices, alongside logistics costs, have continued to weigh on the landing cost of petroleum products, with the Dangote refinery’s ex-depot adjustment passing that pressure down to retail pump prices.

The latest increase marks another leg in the sustained rise in fuel prices this year, adding to pressure on transport fares, the cost of goods, and household budgets in Abuja and other parts of the country
