President Tinubu Meets Service, Security Chiefs Amid Rising Terrorist Attacks

President Bola Tinubu on Thursday convened a security meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, with service chiefs and top defence officials to review the country’s security situation amid a recent surge in insurgent attacks.

Following the meeting, Defence Minister General Christopher Musa briefed journalists on the discussions and the ongoing fight against terrorism.

“The meeting is primarily for us to review ongoing events,” Musa said. “We came here to brief Mr. President on the current situation on the ground. There have been a series of attacks, and the security forces have risen to the occasion. Our goal is to give the President a clearer understanding of what is happening.”

He stressed the need for accurate public understanding of operations. “Media interpretations are not always direct. We felt we should put the record straight, which we have done, and we are glad that Mr. President continues to support the Armed Forces and other security agencies in combating insurgency,” Musa added.

Appealing to Nigerians, he said: “Do not get discouraged. Sometimes, when you hear news of attacks, you may think the situation is worse than it really is. It is far from that. The terrorists are taking more casualties, and their commanders are being killed. While we have lost courageous officers and men, regrettably, we want to assure Nigerians of our commitment to ensuring their safety and security.”

He also highlighted recent operational successes: “We have adjusted our strategies over the past few days, taken over key locations, neutralised commanders, and recovered assets. Mr. President has approved additional equipment to strengthen our capabilities, and we are confident of victory.”

Musa noted the challenges posed by the Ramadan period, when terrorists often act more boldly, but affirmed that the security forces are responding effectively.

“All members of the security forces are committed to assuring Nigerians and the President that we are on track and will succeed,” he concluded
