Police launch platform for Nigerians to report cybercrimes

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has launched a digital platform where Nigerians can report cybercrimes.

In a statement on Thursday, Muyiwa Adejobi, the force spokesperson, said the domain would help combat cybercrime and enhance the safety and security of the country’s digital space.

Adejobi said the upgraded domain — (nccc.npf.gov.ng/ereport/signin) — has enhanced security measures to protect user information and ensure confidentiality.

“The new reporting platform, managed by the NPF National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC), can be accessed at: [nccc.npf.gov.ng/ereport/signin],” Adejobi said

The force spokesperson said the upgraded domain replaces the previous site, incb.npf.gov.ng.

Adejobi said the new domain has improved tracking and response mechanisms to ensure timely and effective action on reported cases.

He added that Kayode Egbetokun, the inspector-general of police (IGP), has urged the public to use the new platform for reporting cybercrime activities.

In February, President Bola Tinubu signed the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Amendment Act, 2024, into law.

The new act amended some sections of the 2015 Cybercrimes Act.

Meanwhile, stakeholders have been lamenting that security agencies are hiding under the cloak of the Cybercrimes Act to clamp down on journalists and activists
