President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday received Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The visit comes three days after the deadly Palm Sunday attack in Angwan Rukuba district of Jos, which left no fewer than 28 people dead.

According to the State House media office, the governor arrived at the Presidential Villa at about 6:45 p.m.

The meeting followed an earlier directive by the President summoning the governor for discussions over the worsening security situation in the North-Central state.

In the wake of the killings, the Commander-in-Chief had described the attack as barbaric, vowing that the perpetrators would not go unpunished.

Speaking through his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the President strongly condemned the attacks in Jos and a separate incident in Kahir village, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where wedding guests were killed and abducted.

“Anyone who will sneak under the cover of the night and kill defenceless citizens as done in Jos and Kahir village is a heartless coward,” Tinubu had said on Mon

While condemning the attacks, the President commended Mutfwang for his efforts in containing the situation in Jos and directed security agencies to intensify efforts to pursue the perpetrators.

He also cautioned sections of the media against suggesting that the attacks were religiously motivated, warning that such narratives could escalate violence.

The Wednesday meeting is expected to focus on immediate security measures to prevent further attacks in Plateau State.

Meanwhile, President Tinubu will on Thursday visit Jos, the Plateau State capital.

Originally scheduled to visit Ogun State, the President will instead head to the North-Central state to commiserate with the government and people over the recent attacks.

Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu today postponed his scheduled trip to Iperu, Ogun State, tomorrow to flag off operations at the Gateway International Cargo Airport,” Onanuga said.

“Instead, he will head to Jos, capital of Plateau State, to commiserate with the government and people of the state over the recent gun attacks, which claimed the lives of innocent citizens.”
