The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has deployed aerial surveillance assets to support ongoing search-and-rescue operations to secure the release of teachers and pupils abducted from Yawota and Ahoro-Esinele communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The development was disclosed by the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, during a courtesy visit by a delegation representing the Chief of Air Staff, Sunday Kelvin Aneke, led by the Air Officer Commanding Logistics Command, Abubakar Suleh, at the Government House.

Makinde said the Air Force immediately deployed an aerial surveillance platform after the abduction incident was reported, providing critical intelligence to support coordinated rescue efforts across the affected areas.

According to him, intelligence gathered from ongoing surveillance missions has continued to guide security agencies in tracking developments on the ground and improving operational coordination in the search for the victims.

He noted that the aerial support has significantly enhanced situational awareness for ground forces engaged in rescue operations, especially in difficult terrain within the affected communities.

The governor also commended the Nigerian Air Force for its swift response and sustained assistance, describing the support as crucial to ongoing efforts to secure the safe return of the abducted pupils and teachers.

Makinde further disclosed that the surveillance platform deployed by the Air Force is currently complementing state-level security initiatives, while the aircraft procured by the Oyo State Government is still undergoing final assembly at a Nigerian Air Force base in Lagos.

He explained that the procurement of the surveillance assets followed consultations with the Air Force to ensure access to maintenance support, technical expertise, and pilot training necessary for sustained operations.

Speaking on behalf of the Chief of Air Staff, the delegation led by Air Vice Marshal Suleh reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to supporting ongoing rescue operations and ensuring the safe return of the abducted victims.

The delegation also conveyed the solidarity of the Air Force with the government and people of Oyo State, while commending the state government for its continued support for NAF operations and infrastructure development.

The Nigerian Air Force reiterated its commitment to working closely with other security agencies and stakeholders to safeguard lives and property and to support national efforts aimed at addressing emerging security challenges across the country
