Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, on Tuesday commissioned the remodeled Muhammadu Adamu Dankabo Domestic Terminal at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to modernizing aviation infrastructure under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony in Kano, Keyamo described the upgraded terminal as another milestone in the administration’s efforts to transform Nigeria’s airports into modern, efficient, and globally competitive facilities.

He said in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Tunde Moshood on Tuesday that Kano remains the commercial heartbeat of Northern Nigeria, making the airport a strategic priority for the Federal Government’s aviation development plans.

The minister disclosed that President Tinubu had approved ₦46 billion for the resurfacing and reconstruction of the airport’s second runway, a project expected to boost operational efficiency and strengthen Kano’s position as a major international aviation hub.

Keyamo also announced that work had commenced on the upgrade of the airport’s Hajj Terminal, with contractors already mobilized to the site.

According to him, the remodeling of the Muhammadu Adamu Dankabo Domestic Terminal forms part of a broader aviation modernization programme aimed at improving passenger comfort, operational efficiency, safety, and service delivery across Nigeria’s airports.

The terminal is named after the late Mallam Muhammadu Adamu Dankabo, a renowned aviation pioneer from Kano State, in recognition of his contributions to the development of Nigeria’s aviation industry.

The event was attended by the Chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje; FAAN Managing Director and Chief Executive, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku; Kano State Commissioner for Transport, Barr. Haruna Isa Dederi, who represented Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf; Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure; Director of Air Transport Management at the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Ahmed Tijani; FAAN directors, aviation stakeholders and other dignitaries.

In her remarks, Kuku said the upgraded terminal reflects FAAN’s commitment to providing world-class airport facilities and improving passengers’ travel experience.
Ganduje commended President Tinubu and the aviation minister for prioritizing infrastructure development at Kano airport, saying the ongoing projects would further strengthen the state’s status as Northern Nigeria’s leading commercial and aviation hub.
