The ad-hoc Committee on Rivers State Oversight, constituted by the House of Representatives, has summoned Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, to appear before it for an interactive session on Thursday, April 17, 2025.
The invitation follows the inauguration of the committee by the Speaker of the House,.Abbas Tajudeen, on Tuesday, April 15, in line with the National Assembly’s resolution approving the presidential proclamation of a State of Emergency in Rivers State.
The committee, chaired by House Leader, Julius Ihonvbere, stated that the session aims to: assess the true state of affairs in Rivers State since the Sole Administrator assumed office and Ensure proper legislative oversight in accordance with Section 11(4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
In a statement, Ihonvbere emphasised, “This engagement is necessary to ascertain the true state of affairs in Rivers State and ensure that the House remains properly guided in the discharge of its oversight responsibilities in the public interest.”
The interactive session is scheduled for 4pm on Thursday at Room 414 in the House of Representatives New Building, National Assembly Complex. A formal letter of invitation has been issued and acknowledged by the office of the Sole Administrator.
In a statement signed by the Spokesman of the House of Representatives, Rep. Akin Rotimi, Jr., the Committee reiterated its commitment to upholding the Constitution and ensuring that its proceedings remain transparent and guided by national interest.
