Google, in collaboration with GOMYCODE, has unveiled the “Build with AI” initiative, a transformative program aimed at equipping 1,000 Nigerian developers with advanced generative AI skills to drive innovation across Africa.

Google’s Head of Developer Ecosystem for Sub-Saharan Africa, John Kimani, emphasized the initiative’s role in positioning Nigeria as a key player in the global AI landscape.

“This program is designed to nurture a new wave of tech talent capable of creating solutions that are both locally impactful and globally competitive,” Kimani stated.

The initiative targets critical sectors such as fintech, healthtech, and agritech, addressing pressing challenges while fostering economic growth.

By leveraging Google’s advanced AI tools, including Gemini, and a curriculum guided by Google experts, the program bridges the gap between raw talent and the specialized expertise needed for AI innovation.

“Nigeria is experiencing a technological renaissance, and our partnership with GOMYCODE empowers developers to shape the future with cutting-edge tools,” Kimani added, highlighting the program’s potential to unlock significant economic and social benefits across the continent.

The 11-week program, delivered through GOMYCODE’s network of hacker spaces, combines in-person training with practical, mentored lab work.

“This hands-on approach ensures developers can immediately apply their skills to real-world projects,” Kimani noted.

Babatunde Olaifa, Country Director for GOMYCODE, underscored the organization’s commitment to fostering local talent.

“By partnering with Google, we’re bringing world-class resources to Nigeria’s developer community, creating an environment where innovation thrives,” Olaifa said.

He expressed excitement about the potential for Nigerian developers to create solutions with global impact.

The “Build with AI” program is now open for applications, with a demo day planned where top participants will present their AI-driven solutions to Google and industry leaders. Interested developers can apply at bit.ly/BwAIDevTraining
