Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is in Ogun State for the official Southwest zonal launch of the National Community Food Bank Programme.
A statement by the Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, says the programme will commence at Makun, Sagamu, with Governors and first ladies from across the country, alongside other major stakeholders, expected to witness the launch.
Akinmade said; “the launch will feature the distribution of food items to support vulnerable households in the state, as part of efforts to strengthen the Nigerian Government’s social intervention initiatives.”
The initiative, under the Social Investment component of the Renewed Hope Initiative, aims to “go beyond emergency food distribution by establishing community-based systems that provide regular access to safe and nutritious food for people most in need.”

The Nigerian Government said; “the programme initially targets 500,000 vulnerable households nationwide in its first year, with emphasis on improving access to nutritious food, reducing hunger and strengthening community resilience.
It also seeks to promote collaboration among government institutions, communities, development partners and other stakeholders in developing a more sustainable response to food insecurity.
The Special Adviser said that, as part of her itinerary, Senator Tinubu will hold an engagement with major stakeholders, including traditional rulers, at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Abeokuta, and participate in the commissioning of selected projects in Ogun State.
He said; “the projects include the 108-unit Muhammadu Buhari Estate at Kobape, Abeokuta, and the Gateway Medical Centre of Excellence, a 250-bed ultra-modern hospital in Abeokuta, designed to provide advanced healthcare services to residents of Ogun State and neighbouring communities.”
Akinmade said the visit is expected to further strengthen collaboration between the Nigerian and Ogun State governments in social welfare, housing and healthcare delivery, while reinforcing their commitment to improving the quality of life of Nigerians.
Voice of Nigeria reports that the initiative comes as the Nigerian Government continues to prioritise food security, social protection and improved living standards under its Renewed Hope Agenda, while stressing the need for its economic reforms to translate into tangible benefits for households and communities.
