The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to equipping Nigerian teachers with future-ready digital skills through the nationwide rollout of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Teacher Capacity Development Programme across all Federal Unity Colleges.

The initiative, implemented by the Federal Ministry of Education through its Education Support Services Department in partnership with ICEDT Consult Limited, follows the successful completion of a pilot phase in six Federal Unity Colleges representing the six geopolitical zones. The programme is designed to strengthen teachers’ digital competencies, improve lesson planning, enhance classroom instruction and promote the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence in education.

Speaking at the signing of the Terms of Reference in Abuja, the Director of Education Support Services, Mr. Gabriel O. Amudipe, described the programme as a strategic investment in teacher professionalism and the future of education. He urged all stakeholders to maintain high implementation standards and ensure effective monitoring and quality assurance throughout the nationwide rollout.

Expected to benefit approximately 11,700 teachers, the initiative will enhance classroom practice, improve learning outcomes and prepare students with the knowledge and digital skills required for the 21st-century economy.

The Federal Ministry of Education remains committed to working with strategic partners to modernise Nigeria’s education system and deliver inclusive, technology-driven and globally competitive education under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
