Bauchi State chapter of the main opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has announced severance of talks with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) over planned defection of its members and supporters led by the state governor, Sen Bala Abdulkador Mohammed.
The announcement of the decision was made on Saturday by the state chairman of the PDP, Pharmacist Sama’ila Adamu Burga, while addressing journalists at the party’s Secretariat.
Sama’ila Burga explained that the APC initiated the talks and extended invitations to Governor Bala Mohammed, PDP members, and elected officials in the State, including National Assembly, State House of Assembly members, and local government council officials, to consider joining the APC.
He further said that the governor and the PDP participated in the engagement out of respect for those involved and in line with commitments to dialogue and inclusiveness.
“However, after consultations and careful consideration, it became clear that conditions put forward for the realignment were not accepted by the APC leadership.”
“In light of this, we want to announce that the discussions have not yielded a conclusive outcome and are hereby formally discontinued,” Sama’ila Burga stated.
While appreciating the APC’s outreach, he said the process has now been brought to a close with no hope of reopening talks on the matter.
The PDP Chairman added that the PDP in Bauchi, in consultation with its stakeholders, is actively considering all available political options and other political parties, apart from the APC, to determine the most suitable path forward in line with the aspirations and best interests of the people.
