Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, announced this at a press briefing in Lagos State.

The Dangote Refinery has said it has plans to soon expand its capacity from 650,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million bpd.

Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, announced this at a press briefing in Lagos State.

“We are expanding the Dangote Petroleum Refinery from 650,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day,” Dangote said.

“Upon completion, this will make it the largest refinery in the world, surpassing the Jamnagar Refinery in India.”

The expansion project is expected to create 65,000 jobs, with 85% of the workforce being Nigerian.

The refinery’s power generation will also increase from 500MW to 1,000 MW, and it will produce Euro 6 standard fuels, meeting global environmental benchmarks.

Dangote announced plans to list the refinery on the Nigerian Stock Exchange in 2026, giving Nigerians the opportunity to become shareholders.

He expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his support, stating, “The expansion is expected to be completed in three years”.

This ambitious project is expected to redefine Africa’s energy dynamics, reduce Nigeria’s reliance on imported refined products, and position the country as a regional energy hub.

The Dangote Refinery, located in the Lekki Free Zone, Lagos, is a $20 billion investment aimed at meeting Nigeria’s fuel demands and exporting surplus products to neighboring countries.

The refinery began operations in 2024 and has already started supplying local and international markets with its products.

The company said the expansion project is a testament to Nigeria’s commitment to industrialisation and energy self-sufficiency.

The expansion project, will make the Refinery surpass India’s Jamnagar Refinery, currently the world’s largest
