Dangote Refinery cuts petrol price to N820/litre, begins direct petrol supply to 11 states by September 15

The much-awaited free direct supply of premium motor spirit (PMS), otherwise known as petrol, to retainers, petrol stations and other large consumers by Dangote Refinery will commenced on Monday, September 15, 2025.

The initiative by the private crude oil refiner based in Lagos was earlier scheduled to begin on Friday, August 15, 2025, but due to logistics issues, it did not start.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) by Dangote Group on Thursday night, it was disclosed that the programme will finally kick-off next Monday.

Dangote Refinery direct PMS delivery

Dangote Refinery planned to execute this free fuel delivery across the nation with 4,000 CNG-powered trucks.

According to reports, all the trucks have not yet arrived in Nigeria from China, where it was ordered from, but about 1,000 are already on the ground to lift the product to consumers.

The vehicles would be manned with state-of-the-art equipment like security cameras, trackers and others.

In the notice released yesterday, Dangote Group said the gantry price of PMS from its refinery has been slashed to N820 per litre, with its retail partners in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Osun, and Ekiti States to dispense the product to their customers at N841 per litre.

However, petrol stations in Abuja are to sell at N851 per litre, with those in Delta, Rivers, Edo and Kwara States are to also keep their pump prices at N851 per litre.

“All petrol station owners nationwide are invited to register for free delivery and other benefits,” a note from the refiner stated in the flier designed for the announcement.

Recall that there have efforts to prevent Dangote Refinery from implementing this free delivery policy in the country by some stakeholders.

A few days ago, the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas (NUPENG) suspended a two-day strike after sealing an agreement with Dangote Refinery, which it accused of planning to prohibit its truck drivers from joining labour unions.

After the federal government intervened in the matter through the Minister of Labour, Mr Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, it was agreed that workers of the company were free to join any of the recognised labour unions in the country “in line with the provisions of the extant laws,” with the “process of unionization” commencing immediately and to be “completed within two weeks (between September 9 and 22, 2025).”
