Court vacates Turaki’s arrest warrant, adjourns arraignment to April 22

The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) sitting in Maitama on Wednesday rescinded the bench warrant earlier issued against Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Kabiru Turaki, over his failure to appear in court in a case involving a lone charge of providing false information to the police.

The court’s decision followed an oral application by Turaki’s counsel, Chief Chris Uche (SAN), which was not opposed by the prosecution counsel, Usman Rabiu.

Delivering the ruling, the presiding judge, Justice Peter Kekemeke, said the purpose of the warrant had already been fulfilled with the defendant’s voluntary appearance.

“The essence of the bench warrant was to produce the defendant in court, and since the defendant has appeared voluntarily, without being arrested, and the application not being contested, the bench warrant is hereby rescinded. The case is hereby adjourned to 22nd April, 2026,” Justice Kekemeke ruled.

According to court proceedings, Turaki is standing trial on a single count charge of allegedly providing false information to the police.

The matter has been adjourned to April 22, 2026, for further hearing
