President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced major leadership changes at several federal universities, including the University of Abuja, which is now renamed Yakubu Gowon University. The House of Representatives Committee on the review of the 1999 Constitution has proposed the creation of 31 additional states in the country.  Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu who presided over plenary on Thursday read a letter from the committee containing the proposed states. The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced the rollout of its contactless passport application system in Europe, the United Kingdom, and Ireland. The Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, has commenced the training of 364 young farmers for the Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprise Niger Delta (LIFE-ND) project in Rivers State. The Senate has approved the request by President Bola Tinubu to approve the termination of the appointment of the Resident Electoral Commission (REC) of Adamawa, Sokoto and Abia States over misconduct. Tinubu, in a letter addressed to the Senate which was read by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, during plenary on Wednesday, urged the Senate to invoke Section 157 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended, on the termination of their appointments. President Bola Tinubu has raised the proposed 2025 budget from ₦49.7 trillion to ₦54.2 trillion, citing additional revenues generated by key government agencies.
