Vice-President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Birnin Kebbi, capital of Kebbi state, to meet families of the schoolgirls abducted from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga.

Shettima arrived the state on Wednesday afternoon on President Bola Tinubu’s directive.

Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima’s spokesperson, said the vice-president was received by Nasiru Idris, state governor; state officials; traditional rulers; and security chiefs on the trip.

Tinubu had directed Shettima to visit the state and reassure parents and guardians of the kidnapped girls that the federal government is committed to securing their swift and safe return.

“The President has made it clear that bringing these innocent children home safely is our singular, non-negotiable priority. Every security asset has been deployed for their rescue,” Nkwocha quoted the vice president as saying.

He noted that during the visit, Shettima will also convey the president’s condolences over the recent security challenges and reaffirm the administration’s commitment to securing all educational institutions across the country.

The vice-president is accompanied by Nentawe Yilwatda, All Progressives Congress (APC) national chairman; Bernard Doro, minister of humanitarian affairs and poverty reduction; Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, minister of women affairs; and Zubaida Umar, director-general of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
