Don’t forget home, return and build nation, Tinubu appeals to Nigerians abroad

President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians in the Diaspora to come home and actively contribute their expertise and resources to Nigeria’s national development.

Speaking yesterday in Yokohama, Japan, during an interactive session with members of the Nigerian community at the Kahala Hotel and Resort, on the sidelines of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), he painted a picture of a nation on the rise again.

Addressing professionals and entrepreneurs from various sectors, President Tinubu outlined his administration’s achievements and reassured the Diaspora of his government’s determination to foster economic growth and create a conducive environment for all citizens.

“I am happy to listen to you. I’m happy to report that many of our people are returning home. Yes, for economic reasons, some people might decide to stay away; it’s a fundamental right of the individual, but for the economic growth and opportunity available in Nigeria, don’t stay away. Your contribution is very much needed. If you stay away, who will build it?” he urged.

The President underscored that national development is a shared responsibility that requires collaboration between those at home and abroad. He encouraged Nigerians abroad to represent the country positively and to help change the often negative narrative surrounding Nigeria. “If we don’t join hands and work together, then we’ve lost the hope of being the leaders we are supposed to be,” he cautioned.

President Tinubu also highlighted improvements in passport issuance, making it easier for Nigerians both at home and abroad to access travel documents. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering tangible benefits to every Nigerian.

“I am delighted to meet a vibrant representation of Nigeria’s diversity,” he said, emphasizing the government’s resolve to make the country more hospitable for all citizens.

Supporting the President’s message, the Minister of State for Industry, John Enoh, and the Executive Vice Chairman of NASENI, Khalil Suleiman Halilu, spoke about government programs and milestones. Wale Tinubu, the President’s nephew, shared insights on economic reforms that have bolstered competitiveness, attracted investments, and expanded the stock market.

On healthcare, the President assured that his government has worked to reverse the trend of medical tourism through enhancements in infrastructure and greater access to quality services locally.

Members of the Nigerian community in Japan welcomed the meeting and expressed optimism about the pace of reforms.

President of the Nigerian Union in Japan, Emeka Ebogota, thanked the President for engaging with them and pledged support for his administration’s vision to reposition Nigeria.
