Adeleke, Osun PDP Endorse Tinubu For Second Term

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state have declared support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

Adeleke made this known on Tuesday through a statement shared via his official X handle, following a strategic meeting with the PDP leadership caucus in Osogbo.

“Yesterday, I met with the @OfficialPDPNig Leadership Caucus in Osogbo after weeks of consultations with stakeholders across Osun — from traditional rulers and civil servants to market leaders and grassroots party members.

“I’m pleased to share the resolutions: I remain in the PDP, the party that gave me the platform to serve the good people of Osun. I have been unanimously endorsed by the Osun PDP for a second term in 2026.

“Our party in Osun has also endorsed President Tinubu for re-election in 2027, recognising him as a proud son of our state. PDP remains the most popular and trusted party across Osun State. I will continue to deliver on our Five-Point Agenda with renewed focus and dedication. The love and support from the people of Osun continue to inspire me. Together, we move forward,” he wrote

The announcement follows months of speculation over Adeleke’s political future, with rumours suggesting he might defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the president’s party.

The speculation heightened after Adeleke, his brother Adedeji Adeleke, and their nephew, Afrobeats singer David Adeleke (popularly known as Davido), paid a private visit to President Tinubu at his Ikoyi residence in Lagos on 3 June.

On 16 July, former APC National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore, reignited the conversation by describing Adeleke as a “political orphan” attempting to join the ruling party. He dismissed claims that the governor was being courted by the APC, despite his meetings with Tinubu and key APC figures.

The governor, however, has consistently denied such intentions.

In May, during a meeting with party stakeholders, the governor said that he had no plans to leave the PDP for the APC.

Governor Adeleke, in another statement dated 5 July, reaffirmed his loyalty to the opposition party.

He wrote: “I have been inundated with calls regarding rumours of a possible defection. I want to assure the good people of Osun State and Nigerians at large: I remain a loyal member and the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State.

“My focus remains on delivering good governance and fulfilling our 5-point agenda for the Osun people. Please disregard the fake news and continue to support our mission for a better Osun State.”
