A total of 331 young graduates of diverse academic disciplines on Thursday received certificates and awards after completing a 12-month Human Capital Development Basic Training Programme on the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited Train 7 Project.

The hands-on training, which held on a live LNG Plant at Finima, Bonny Island, base of the NLNG Limited, centred on Lifting and Working at Heights, Marine and Offshore Services, Quality Management Systems, Facility Management and Maintenance, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Engineering, Welding and Fabrication, and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT).

In the keynote address, the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, commended the NLNG and partner companies for their unwavering commitment to Nigerian Content Development and for giving the outgoing trainees opportunities of a lifetime.

The NCDMB boss stated that the HCD component of the Train 7 Project is “a testament to the successful implementation of the Board’s Human Capital Development Guidelines, 2020,” which seeks to ensure that major oil and gas projects deliberately contribute to the training and empowerment of Nigerians.

He said the Train 7 Project, being one of the largest gas infrastructure developments in Africa, has not only created jobs but also provided a platform to groom young Nigerians with advanced technical and managerial competencies. The investments of the NLNG, according to him, have made a difference in strengthening local capacity and deepening in-country value retention.

Represented by the General Manager, Human Capital Development (HCD), Mr. Esueme Dan Kikile, Esq, the NCDMB boss urged the trainees to leverage the opportunity they have been provided to continuously improve themselves and remain open to innovations that would shape the future of Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

Earlier in a welcome address, the General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development, of the NLNG, Dr. Sophia Horsfall, said the company strongly believes that investing in people, equipping them with practical skills, knowledge, and to world-class exposure, is not just a corporate responsibility but a catalyst for driving economic and a sustainable future.

She stated that the Basic HCD Training Programme is a statutory requirement under the NOGIC Act, 2010, and is part of the NLNG Train 7 Project Nigerian Content Plan.

Dr. Horsfall commended the NCDMB for facilitating “the training of literally thousands of Nigerians,” who were thus enabled to obtain internationally recognised certifications.

She advised the outgoing trainees to put the knowledge and skills acquired to proper use in their future endeavours.

A representative of NLNG Train 7 Project, Engr. Joshua Onemeje, expressed appreciation to the Executive Secretary of the NCDMB, Engr. Ogbe, for the support the company has received, and also thanked the Oil and Gas Trainers Association of Nigeria (OGTAN) facilitators for “a fantastic work done.”

In the vote of thanks, the Nigerian Content Manager of the NLNG, Engr. Dagogo Buowari, said HCD “facilitates societal transformation and building a sustainable development.”

He described the partnership between the NCDMB and the NLNG as “the gold standard for regulator-operator relationship.”

Thirty outstanding trainees were honoured with awards of excellence and cash gifts
