Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, today, has dismissed widespread speculations that he had defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
He made the clarification during an inspection tour of the newly constructed General Hospital and the remodelled Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Rumuigbo, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.
The Governor stated that contrary to reports circulating in sections of the media over the past few days, he remains a committed member of the APC and will continue to work in the overall interest of the party.
“I know there has been a lot of drama in the media — one story or another. I am a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and nothing has changed. People should stop using whatever situation they pick up from social media or their personal interpretation of events to misrepresent me.
“I have not gone anywhere. I am still a member of the APC and I remain committed to the party. Whatever happens, what is important is supporting the overall interest of the party”, he said.
The Governor, who was conducted round the facilities by the Director of Medical Services in the Rivers State Ministry of Health, Dr. Vincent Wachukwu, was taken through the hospital wards, conference hall, ICT centre, student hostel, staff quarters, and other critical sections of the facilities.
He expressed satisfaction with the completion of the two health projects, noting that they were initiated to address critical healthcare challenges in the state.
Recalling the circumstances that led to the projects, Fubara explained that the rehabilitation of the Neuropsychiatric Hospital became necessary following concerns over mental health care in the state.
He added that his administration also discovered the absence of a General Hospital within the area to cater to the healthcare needs of residents.
“This project came about after an inspection visit concerning mental health issues.
“When we visited the rehabilitation centre being developed by the board, we discovered there were even broader healthcare challenges in the area.
“We realized there was no General Hospital serving the people in this axis”, he noted.
The nearest facility available to them was the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH), which is quite far from here.
“Considering the available space within this premises, we decided it would be appropriate to establish a General Hospital here, to serve neighboring communities such as Rumuola, Rumuolumeni, and other surrounding areas.”
The Governor noted that both projects have now been fully completed and are ready for use.
“Today, to the glory of God, we can see that the project is no longer 95 percent complete but 100 percent completed. We are happy because it is a promise made and a promise fulfilled.
“As I always say, what is important is doing things that will positively impact the lives of our people. The welfare of our people comes first, and that is the driving force behind this administration”, he concluded
