The victory celebrations have continued in Lagos as the 10-time WAFCON champions, the Super Falcons, paraded their trophy through the streets to the cheers of enthusiastic football fans.
Still riding high on the wave of national recognition, including a presidential honour and generous cash rewards, the triumphant Super Falcons touched down in Lagos on Wednesday afternoon.
Their arrival set off a jubilant trophy parade that passed through iconic landmarks on Lagos Island, drawing crowds of elated fans who lined the streets to celebrate the team’s historic WAFCON triumph.
The parade began at Costain, passed through Eko Bridge, Apongbon, Obalende, Ikoyi Road, and Victoria Island, before ending at Eko Hotel.
Pockets of fans welcomed the team at various points along the parade route.
The team arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja from Morocco aboard a chartered flight at about 2:26 p.m. on Monday.
They went straight to the presidential villa where they presented the trophy to President Bola Tinubu.
In acknowledgement of their achievement, Tinubu conferred the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger on the Super Falcons. He also announced the award of the naira equivalent of $100,000 to each of the 24 players.
The President said the victorious players would each receive a three-bedroom apartment. He also announced the award of the naira equivalent of $50,000 to the technical team.
The Falcons made history on Saturday, coming from two goals down to defeat host country Morocco 3-2 to make it 10 wins in 10 WAFCON finals
