President Bola Tinubu arrived in the United Arab Emirates on Sunday night to attend the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), opening this Monday.

This marks a significant step in Nigeria’s pursuit of green energy investment and international climate cooperation.

The Presidential aircraft landed at the Zayed International Airport at 11:30 p.m. local time, following the President’s working visit to Europe.

Before arriving in the UAE, President Tinubu held high-level strategic talks with French President Emmanuel Macron and Rwandan President Paul Kagame, focusing on regional security and economic partnerships.

The President was accorded a formal reception at the airport’s Presidential Wing, led by Sheikh Shakhboot Nahyan Al Nahyan, the UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

Accompanying the UAE minister was the UAE Ambassador to Nigeria, Salem Saeed Al-Shamsi, and Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar.

Upon arrival at his hotel, the President was greeted by a specialized ministerial team including Atiku Bagudu (Budget and Economic Planning) and Dr. Jumoke Oduwole (Industry, Trade, and Investment).

The Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Amb. Mohammed Mohammed, was also on the ground to receive the President.

On the ADSW Agenda are that “All Systems Go”
Starting Monday, the President will join world leaders and climate experts for the 2026 ADSW, held under the theme: “The Nexus of Next, All Systems Go.”

The summit is designed to catalyse global efforts toward accelerating the global energy transition, fostering inclusive economic growth through green technology, and solidifying international climate action frameworks ahead of future global summits.

Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga noted that the President’s presence at the ADSW is a testament to Nigeria’s commitment to leading the sustainability conversation in Africa.

Beyond the summit’s environmental focus, the visit is expected to yield strengthened bilateral ties and potentially open new channels for UAE-led foreign direct investment into Nigeria’s energy sector.
