The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed as baseless and misleading the allegation by the Party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, that his signature was forged on a letter transmitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding the 2025 Elective National Convention.

In a statement signed by the BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, the Party clarified that the said INEC notification letter was jointly signed by the National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, and Senator Anyanwu on August 25, 2025, during the 102nd meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Party.

According to the BoT, the signing took place in the presence of key stakeholders, including members of the PDP Governors’ Forum, the Board of Trustees, and other NEC members.

The statement further explained that “Senator Anyanwu was subsequently inaugurated as Secretary of the Contact and Mobilization Sub-Committee for the 2025 National Convention, where he co-signed official correspondences alongside the Sub-Committee Chairman, Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State.”

These documents, the BoT noted, include letters of appointment to committee members and a request for financial approval for the sub-committee’s inaugural meeting, all bearing Senator Anyanwu’s authentic signature.

Describing the forgery allegation as “reprehensible and inconsistent with documented facts,” the BoT said “the claim was a deliberate attempt to discredit the leadership of the Party and misinform the public and security agencies.”

The Board reaffirmed that the PDP remains cohesive, resolute, and committed to transparency, internal democracy, and unity ahead of its 2025 National Convention scheduled to hold on November 15–16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

It urged party members and supporters to disregard the forgery allegation and remain steadfast in their support for the leadership as it continues to strengthen Nigeria’s democratic process
