Nnamdi Kanu is the defendant’s 1st witness in the trial within the trial as ordered by the court.

He told the court that the statements he gave at the DSS HQ were under duress, as he was coerced into it.

He alleged that coercion started from Lagos when they were transporting him from Lagos to Abuja where a DSS officer struck him.

He claimed he was transported in chains, blindfolded.

Describing his cell, Kanu said he knew it was underground because they kept telling him to mind the steps as he climbed lower and the lightning there was horrible and dim.

He also claimed that Mr Brown the person who investigated him had threatened him that he would remain in the dungeon and not granted the one-hour fresh air they usually give to him, just the same way they denied him the bail granted by one Justice Ademola.

He said the DSS kept shouting him down and kept dictating to him what to write.

He alleged that the DSS officer who struck him later apologized to him, so he decided not to make a case of it.

During cross-examination by the prosecution, Mr Kanu maintained that his detention at the DSS in 2015 was without any court order his interviews were taken without his lawyers, and the atmosphere was not conducive.

Justice Omotosho asked the prosecution and defence team to adopt their written addresses in the trial within the trial and they should file the same before 9am tomorrow.

Court adjourned till 29th May for ruling.
