Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC has commenced remedial works at failed sections of Warri-Benin Road.
Speaking during inspection of the work along Elume, Amukpe and Ologbo areas of East West Road, Managing Director Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku expressed displeasure over the deplorable state of the road which has caused traffic jam and loss of manhour.
Dr. Ogbuku said NDDC awarded the contract for the repairs to complement the efforts of Federal Government towards providing a permanent solution to the challenge.
The MD who noted that the commission has also intervened at the Ahoada axis of East West Road which became unmotorable, explained that road users spent days at the failed portion between Rivers and Bayelsa States.
While observing that the condition of the road has forced road users to divert into internal roads as alternatives, the Chief Executive Officer of NDDC hinted that if the situation was not handled urgently, those internal routes would be damaged also, thereby affecting economic and social activities within the communities.
Dr. Ogbuku who was sympathetic of the difficulty motorists have encountered using the road, gave assurance that the work would be expedited to ease the suffering.
On his part, the contractor handling the project, Mr. Edara Okpeloluwa who said that the repair works would cover over three kilometers, maintained that the work would be completed within two weeks.
In company of the MD during the inspection were the Executive Director projects, EDP, Sir Victor Antai and other directors of the commission.
