The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced an extension of the grace period for enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit requirement, now set to expire on August 12, 2025.
According to a press statement issued on Saturday, June 14, by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, approved the extension following public feedback.
“The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has approved an extension of the grace period for the enforcement of Tinted Glass Permit requirement to the 12th of August, 2025,” the statement read.
The Force said the decision was driven by concerns raised by Nigerians over the reactivation of the digital application process for the permit.
“This extension comes on the heels of several concerns and feedback expressed by members of the public regarding the reactivation of the digital Tinted Glass Permit application process. In line with our commitment to delivering transparent, inclusive, and citizen-focused policing, the Force wishes to affirm that it has not ignored the voices of Nigerians,” the statement noted.
The NPF added that the public’s feedback has been pivotal in shaping the ongoing reviews to improve the application system.
“Rather, these voices have been instrumental in guiding ongoing reviews of the process to ensure it remains user-friendly, secure, and accessible to all.”
It further stated that the extended grace period will provide time to refine the application process so that citizens are not unfairly affected.
“The extension of enforcement is also intended to give room for additional enhancements and refinements to the application process, ensuring that no member of the public is unduly disadvantaged.”
The Force assured that efforts are underway to simplify both physical and digital application procedures.
“The NPF is actively working to simplify and improve both the physical and contactless application options including enhanced verification mechanisms and streamlined procedures to reduce delays and eliminate undue inconveniences.”
In February 2024, SaharaReporters reported that the Nigeria Police Force stated that it had reviewed and proposed to lift the ban on tinted glass but with stringent measures to prevent abuse and ensure strict compliance with guidelines governing the issuance and use.
A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Adejobi, said the force was going to train ICT analysts and enforcement officers nationwide for compliance
