The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has initiated a significant step in its digital transformation by launching the Electronic Currency Declaration Form (e-CDF) at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. This pilot programme, which commenced on 9 April 2025, aims to enhance transparency in cross-border financial disclosures and bolster anti-money laundering efforts.
During the initial phase, the e-CDF system successfully recorded 69 currency declaration transactions. Outbound declarations comprised 51 transactions, amounting to approximately $1.2 million, while inbound declarations totalled 18, with a declared value of around $177,786.88.

The e-CDF platform aligns with international standards on anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-financing of terrorism (CFT), providing real-time data to support intelligence gathering and inter-agency cooperation. The NCS, under the leadership of Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, plans to extend this digital declaration system to other international airports and border posts across Nigeria.
This initiative reflects Nigeria’s commitment to leveraging technology to improve compliance, facilitate legitimate travel and trade, and ensure the integrity of its borders
