Cristiano Ronaldo leaves Saudi Arabia for treatment on hamstring injury

After the recent drone attacks on the United States Embassy in Riyadh, Cristiano Ronaldo decided to leave Saudi Arabia with his family for security reasons. The footballer, who has been living in the Saudi capital since signing with Al-Nassr in 2023, traveled on a private jet to Madrid due to the increased risk for foreigners in the region. The flight, recorded on March 2, lasted nearly seven hours and passed through Egypt and the Mediterranean before landing on Spanish soil.

Luxury and Security in the Air

The transfer was carried out in a Bombardier Global Express XRS, an aircraft from his personalized fleet branded with CR7. Recently, the Portuguese star enhanced his air logistics by acquiring a Global Express 6500, valued at 61 million pounds, after parting with his previous Gulfstream G200. This new model offers intercontinental range and a maximum luxury configuration that includes a bedroom with a double bed and a separate shower, ideal for moving his family quickly and privately in case of contingencies.

Impact on the Sports Calendar

Ronaldo’s departure coincides with a period of enforced inactivity, as he is recovering from a muscle injury sustained against Al-Fahya. Additionally, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has confirmed the rescheduling of the Champions League Elite and other tournaments in the western region due to the armed conflict. This measure temporarily suspends Al-Nassr’s commitments, allowing the player to continue his rehabilitation outside the conflict zone.

World Cup Uncertainty for Iran

The escalation of violence in the Middle East has also cast doubt on Iran’s participation in the 2026 World Cup. According to current regulations, if the Iranian team were excluded or decided to withdraw from the competition, the FIFA Council would have to designate a replacement respecting the continental quota. The substitute team would join Group G alongside Belgium, Egypt, and New Zealand, with the official debut scheduled for the upcoming June 15.
