The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, says one of the biggest mistakes made by Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara was trying to build his own political structure too early after assuming office.
Speaking during a media chat in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Wike said Fubara began distancing himself from the political structure that brought him to power within his first 100 days in office, adding that the governor also made the mistake of believing he could succeed without the support of those who backed him.
Wike said he had expected Fubara to build on the foundation his administration laid, including major infrastructure projects, so Rivers could compete with Lagos in terms of development.
He argued that the governor instead lost focus after listening to people who encouraged him to confront his political benefactors.
The former Rivers governor also dismissed claims that he demanded money from Fubara, describing the allegation as false.
Wike said his only interest was to see the state remain stable and continue the projects initiated during his administration, insisting that his current position as FCT minister gave him no reason to seek financial support from the governor
