Segun Aina, a professor of computer engineering who turned 40 in July, has officially assumed office as the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Aina took over leadership of the board on Friday at its headquarters in Bwari, Abuja, succeeding Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, whose two-term tenure of 10 years ended on July 31, 2026.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed Aina as the substantive registrar on May 21, when Aina was 39 years old, making him the youngest person to hold the position in the examination body’s history.

In a statement announcing the appointment, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described Aina as “a distinguished academic and systems expert with extensive experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure, and public-sector institutional reform”.

“At 39, he became one of Nigeria’s youngest Computer Engineering professors and will now make history as JAMB’s youngest registrar,” Onanuga added.

In his inaugural address, Aina pledged to uphold the integrity of the board and strengthen its processes through the deployment of modern technology.

He warned individuals involved in examination malpractice to reconsider their actions, stressing that “their business is in a wrong institution”.

The new registrar also said JAMB under his leadership would deepen collaboration with security agencies to safeguard the credibility of the matriculation examination process.

Aina’s appointment marks a new chapter for the board, with expectations that his expertise in digital systems and institutional reform will further strengthen the conduct of examinations and admission processes in Nigeria
