Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress on Tuesday converged on Kebbi State for the Progressive First-Term Governors’ Meeting.

The meeting, held behind closed doors at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, is expected to focus on matters of national importance and issues affecting the ruling APC.

First-term governors are state governors who are serving their first four-year tenure in office

Among the governors in attendance are those of Kaduna, Plateau, Ekiti, Delta, Zamfara, Kano, Jigawa, Ebonyi, Edo, Ondo, Kogi, Sokoto and Benue states, among others.

The governors were received by the host governor, Nasir Idris, alongside the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu.

Providing updates on the arrivals via his Facebook page, Abuzaidu Yari, the Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the Kebbi State Governor, said the meeting would focus on national development and the party’s agenda.

Announcing the arrival of Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu, Yari wrote, “The arrival of His Excellency, the Governor of Sokoto State, Dr Ahmad Aliyu, at the Kebbi State Government House, where APC governors will hold a special meeting to discuss important issues for the development of Nigeria.”

In another post, he announced the arrival of the governors of Kaduna, Ekiti, Plateau and Delta states.

“The arrival of the governors of Kaduna State, Sen. Uba Sani; Ekiti State, Abiodun Abayomi Oyebanji; Plateau State, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang; and Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, at the Kebbi State Government House, where APC governors will hold a special meeting to discuss important issues for the development of Nigeria.

“The governors received a special welcome from the host governor, Dr Nasir Idris, and the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Sen. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu,” he wrote.

The meeting is also expected to explore strategies for strengthening intergovernmental collaboration, advancing the party’s development agenda, promoting good governance, sustainable economic growth and national unity.

The Chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum is expected to brief journalists on the outcome of the meeting.
