UAE plans world’s first AI-powered government, targets 50% sector adoption

Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, prime minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), says the country will roll out a new government model powered by artificial intelligence (AI).

In a post on X on Thursday, the Dubai ruler said the initiative, launched under the directives of the UAE president, will see 50 percent of government sectors, services, and operations run on “agentic AI” within two years.

Agentic AI is an artificial intelligence system designed to act like “agents. They do not only respond to prompts but can also make decisions, take actions, and pursue goals with some level of autonomy.

Al Maktoum said the move would make the UAE the first government globally to operate at such a scale using autonomous systems.

“AI is no longer a tool. It analyses, decides, executes, and improves in real time,” he said.

“It will become our executive partner to enhance services, accelerate decisions, and raise efficiency.”

He said the transformation would be implemented within a two-year timeline, adding that performance across government institutions would be measured by the speed of adoption, quality of execution, and the ability to deploy AI in redesigning public services.

“We are investing in our people. Every federal employee will be trained to master AI, building one of the world’s strongest capabilities in AI-driven government,” he added.

He noted that implementation of the initiative will be overseen by Vice-President Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, with execution driven by a task force chaired by Mohammad Al Gergawi.

“The world is changing. Technology is accelerating. Our principle remains constant — people come first,” he added.

“Our goal is a government that is faster, more responsive, and more impactful.”
