Governors from northern Nigeria have strongly condemned the deadly bomb blasts in Maiduguri, describing the attacks as “barbaric” and a direct assault on innocent people.

The Northern States Governors’ Forum, led by Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, said it was deeply saddened by the incident, which left many people dead and others injured.

In a statement, the forum said the explosions at the Post Office area, Monday Market and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital were “heinous, barbaric and a direct assault on innocent lives.”

The governors also expressed sympathy to the government and people of Borno State, especially families who lost loved ones.

They called for stronger efforts to end terrorism in the region and improve security.

“We must bring an end to these senseless killings and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice,” the forum said.

The attack happened on Monday evening when suspected suicide bombers targeted crowded areas during Iftar, the time Muslims break their fast.

Officials say at least 23 people were killed and more than 100 were injured.

Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum also condemned the attack, calling it “barbaric and inhumane.”

Security agencies have since increased patrols and are investigating the incident, which is believed to be linked to extremist groups such as Boko Haram.

The northern governors urged residents to remain calm but vigilant, while calling on security forces to intensify operations to protect lives and prevent further attacks.
