The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has approved the appointment of Peter Akpe as the Deputy Governor of the state.
Akpe, a pastor, served as Chief of Staff to Governor Douye Diri prior to his nomination.
An ordained clergy of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Akpe has built a career spanning the civil service and politics. He served in both the Rivers and Bayelsa State civil services before transitioning fully into politics.
He was a two-term member of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly from 2011 to 2019, where he served as Majority Leader throughout his tenure in the legislature. He also served as Commissioner between 2008 and 2011 under the administration of former Governor Seriake Dickson.
The approval by the Assembly clears the way for his swearing-in as Deputy Governor.
Akpe’s appointment follows the death of the former Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who passed away last December.
