The senate has received and adopted the report of the committee on foreign affairs on the confirmation of three nominees for appointment as non-career ambassadors.

The report was presented on Tuesday during plenary by Sani Bello, senator representing Niger north and chairman of the committee.

The nominees are Lateef Kayode Are from Ogun state, Aminu Muhammad-Dalhatu from Jigawa state, and Emmanuel Ayodele Oke from Oyo state.

Presenting the committee’s findings, Bello said the nominees were thoroughly screened and found suitable for diplomatic assignments.

“The committee has carefully and thoroughly screened the three nominees and is satisfied with their qualification, exposure, conduct, character, experience, and general performance,” he said.

“The nominees have displayed wide and in-depth knowledge of international diplomacy.”

Bello said the committee unanimously recommended their confirmation.

“The committee therefore recommends as follows: one, that the senate confirm the nomination of Lateef Kayode Are for appointment as a non-career ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.

“Two, that the senate confirm the nomination of Aminu Muhammad-Dalhatu for appointment as non-career ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; and finally, that the senate confirm the nomination of Emmanuel Ayodele Oke for appointment as non-career ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Following the adoption of the report, the senate confirmed the nominees.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio congratulated the ambassadors-designate and wished them successful tenures.

“I congratulate the ambassadors-designate; I wish them successful tenures in any country they are posted to,” Akpabio said.
