President Trump launches website for $5m ‘gold card’ granting US residency for wealthy foreign investors

US President Donald Trump has announced the launch of a new website for his much-publicised $5 million US residency permit, dubbed the “Trump Card”, as pre-registration officially opens.

In a social media post on Wednesday, Trump claimed, “Thousands have been calling and asking how they can sign up to ride a beautiful road in gaining access to the Greatest Country and Market anywhere in the World.” The new portal, TrumpCard.gov, invites prospective applicants to enter their details and register interest for what is being marketed as a premium pathway to US residency.

While the visa is not yet available, the website features a prominent banner reading “The Trump Card is Coming”, and allows users to submit their name, email, and preferred visa type. The scheme is being touted as a high-value alternative to the traditional green card, aimed at attracting wealthy investors and job creators.

Trump first teased the initiative in April, unveiling a gold-coloured prototype visa card bearing his likeness during a promotional event aboard Air Force One. He claimed at the time that the card would be launched “in less than two weeks”, though official approval is still pending.

The president has positioned the visa as a potential economic stimulus, suggesting it could help reduce the national deficit by attracting foreign capital. He previously floated the idea of issuing “maybe a million” of the permits and notably did not exclude Russian oligarchs from eligibility.

The rollout comes amid growing backlash against increased deportation raids and a wave of immigration-related legal challenges. Civil rights groups have criticised the administration’s enforcement-heavy approach, accusing it of discrimination and constitutional violations.

Trump insists the Trump Card would offer a route to US citizenship for those able to afford the $5 million price tag, drawing both domestic criticism and international interest
