COAS Hosts Sallah Luncheon For Troops In Sokoto

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has organized a special Sallah luncheon for the troops assigned to North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, which took place at the Giginya Cantonment in Sokoto State.

Addressing the troops, Lieutenant General Oluyede assured improved welfare for personnel and their families serving at different formations across the country.

The COAS represented by the Commander Nigerian Army Cyber Warfare, Major General Adeleke Ayannuga, commended personnel resilience, and doggedness and assured them that their sacrifices would not go in vain.

He emphasised that the security of lives and property in Nigerians was the mandate of the Nigerian Army and troops would always be ready to live up to the expectations.

He further assured the troops of the Nigerian Army of more support and encouragement to continue confronting security challenges bedevilling the nation.

“We plan to do more to bring lasting peace to Nigerians; the enemy is not sleeping, and we will not rest until we restore peace in the nation,” he said.

Lieutenant General Oluyede expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their support and cooperation, urging them to continue collaborating with the military to defeat the enemies of the country.

“We want to thank Nigerians for their support; we are appealing to them to collaborate with us to defeat the enemies of our land,” he appealed.

He further said Nigerians acknowledged unwavering commitment, understanding, selfless devotion, and unflinching resilience in defence of our fatherland which was deeply appreciated.

“Eid-Adha symbolises the essence of sacrifice, a virtue that mirrors the daily lives of soldiers across theatres of operation.

”I urge you to remain resolute and draw renewed strength from the spiritual significance of the season,” he said.

The COAS appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing the necessary resources and environment for military operations.

Earlier, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division of Nigerian Army Sokoto, and Commander Sector 2 North West Operation Fansan Yamma, Major General Ibikunle Ajose, commended the philosophy of COAS which serves as a booster to troops’ performance. 

He described the event as more than celebrating the Sallah, but serves as inspiring and encouragement along with reflecting on achievements, collective determination and sacrifice.

Major General Ajose said troops have ensured that the Funtua-Gusau-Sokoto road was safe for motorists and communities in the four states.

He assured that troops would not relent on their efforts until they flush out all criminals and restore peace in the northwestern states.

Similarly,  the COAS was led by the GOC and other senior officers where he inspected the Army Clinic and interacted with Sick and Wounded in Action Personnel and reassured more support from the Nigerian Army
