The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally initiated proceedings to address allegations of anti-party activities levelled against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
This development was announced by Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme on Monday.
Abdullahi disclosed that Wike, a former Governor of Rivers State, has been officially summoned via a written letter to appear before the disciplinary committee, chaired by esteemed party leader Chief Tom Ikimi.
This committee was constituted by the PDP’s National Working Committee to investigate and address matters of party discipline
Abdullahi said, “Nyesom Wike is among those summoned by the disciplinary committee, chaired by elder statesman Chief Tom Ikimi. This committee will investigate claims of anti-party activities.
“We have received multiple petitions alleging sabotage against the party throughout the primary process, which have been compiled and forwarded to the committee.”
According to him, some party members opined that Wike had been given too much leeway by the party leadership.
Regarding Wike’s recent comments about “putting fire” in the states of PDP governors in support of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, Abdullahi condemned the statement.
He described Wike’s remarks as “very disappointing and not in line with our expectations”.
Wike previously expressed his satisfaction with his role in Bola Tinubu’s administration despite facing criticism.
He also warned PDP governors supporting Fubara amid his ongoing rift with the Rivers State governor.
SaharaReporters had reported that during the PDP Congress in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Wike warned of potential political unrest in the states of any PDP governor who attempted to interfere with party matters in the South-South region.
Wike said that anyone unhappy with his position in Tinubu’s government could “hug the transformer”.
He threatened to cause problems in the state of any governor who interferes in Rivers State affairs.
