NCDMB Graduates 1000 Youths On Smartphone Repairs, Hardware, Software & Entrepreneurship Development in Cross River State
The Executive Secretary, NCDMB, Engr. Simbi Kesiye Wabote (FNSE, FIPS) accompanied by the GM, Research, Statistics & Development, NCDMB, Mr Abdulmalik Halilu, ES-STA/GM, Strategy & Transformation Projects, NCDMB, Engr. Abayomi Bamidele and other staff of the Board was earlier today at the Graduation Ceremony of the Training of 1000 youths in GSM Phone repair, Hardware, Software & Entrepreneurship Development in Cross River State.
Engr. Simbi in his keynote address welcomed all to the auspicious occasion marking the Graduation Ceremony of the GSM phone repair, Software & Entrepreneurship Dev. training for 1,000 youths in Cross River State under the Board’s Youth Empowerment Programme.
This training is the Sixth of its kind having conducted similar interventions in Kano, Kaduna, Cross River (phase1), Bauchi and Yobe States, impacting 3,900 youths.
The Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act setting up NCDMB requires that we develop talents, facilities and assets supporting oil and gas operations and its linkage sectors, He noted.
Pursuant to our mandate and in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment to empower youths & position them as leading contributors to national dev, NCDMB designed its youth empowerment prog to provide lifelong support to youths that desire to be empowered in high impact economic sectors.
Through the GSM Youth Empowerment Scheme, we have provided you with ample opportunity to harness the potentials in the ICT sector based on our unique End-to-End training delivery model which entails:
a. Classroom training phase-software development & installation and hardware repairs
b. Apprenticeship phase to provide hands on experience
c. Entrepreneurship development, to facilitate participant’s entry into the business world. Here trainees benefit from starter packs, allocation of rented shops, registration with Corporate Affairs Commission, and State Cooperative Board,
d. Payment of stipends to augment your transportation expenses
before you start earning income from the trade.
Herein lies the huge opportunity for GSM Technicians, as your services cut across all strata of the society and sectors of the
economy. Your ability to demonstrate resilience also offers opportunity for you to operate in the multipolar world. Engr Simbi continued.
He added that “Today’s event further amplifies Nigerian Content outreach to all Nigerians irrespective of state of origin or residence. I’ll soon be commissioning a similar intervention in Bayelsa & Oyo states to expand the frontiers of youth empowerment & entrepreneurship development.”
The ES finally congratulated all the participants, saying that it is their responsibility to use the skills acquired to make a living for themselves and contribute positively to the development of their communities and our dear country.
Prof. Florence Banku Obi, Vice Chancellor, University of Calabar in her goodwill message highlighted that gaining useful skills and becoming entrepreneurs is the peak of education. She encouraged the graduants to be ready for the next phase which is the real life phase of the training.
The facilitator, Rt. Hon. Legor Idagbo, Member Rep. Bekwarra/Obudu/Obanliku Fed. Constituency in the House of Rep & Chairman, Nigerian Content Development & Monitoring Committee, in his goodwill message expressed gratitude to the Executive Secretary, Engr. Simbi Wabote & the Board for the training.He urged the graduands to make the best out of the training and become successful entrepreneurs by applying all the acquired knowledge and skills.
The Executive Governor, Cross River state, Sen (Prof) Ben Ayade represented by the Deputy Governor, Prof Ivara Ejemot Esu in his goodwill message congratulated the graduands & encouraged them to come forward for support if & where necessary as the state is ready to open its doors to them.
The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Eteng Jonah Williams,while thanking the Board for the training, in his goodwill message, advised the entrepreneurs to be good examples to others as this acquired skill will always separate them from the crowd.
The General Manager, Research, Statistics & Development, NCDMB, Mr Abdulmalik Halilu in his vote of thanks said the Board will continue initiate sustainable policies and trainings to build capacities that are in line with its mandate.

Laptops and other starter packs were presented to graduands shortly after the graduation ceremony at the venue.
