I’m Leaving Behind Electoral Process That Ensures Votes Count – Buhari

With barely a day to leave office, President Muhammadu Buhari, says he is leaving behind a better electoral process for the country.

In a televised farewell message to the nation on Sunday, Buhari stated that the new electoral process he is leaving behind is one “which guarantees that votes count, results are credible, elections are fair and transparent and the influence of money in politics reduced to the barest minimum”

He said that with the current electoral process, Nigerians can now elect leaders of their choice.

The President said the outcome of this process has already started manifesting with the level playing ground it provided during the recently concluded elections

“We are already seeing the outcome of this process as it provided an even playing field where persons without any political God-Father or access to money defeated other well-resourced candidates.”

Reeling out more of his achievements in his eight years in office, Buhari said that the various strategies put in place to ensure that the economy remained afloat during cases of global economic downturns by his administration has made the Nigerian economy more resilient.

Recalling the supply chain disruptions and economic downturn that the world witnessed between 2020 and 2022 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Buhari said that the deftness of his response to the pandemic still remains a global best practice.

He stated that his administration increased the ability of the poor and rural Nigerians to earn a living, provided more food for millions in the villages and gave women opportunities to earn a living.

The President also said that young men and women in urban centres were also supported to put their skills into productive use.

“Our administration also provided an enabling environment for the private sector to engage in businesses for which their return on investments is guaranteed,” he added.
