FG inaugurates advertising offences tribunal, urges fairness

Federal Government has inaugurated Advertising Offences Tribunal to entertain violation of Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) Act No 23 of 2022, Code of Advertising Practice, Standard of Practice and relevant legislations.

The Justice Cecelia Olatoregun-led panel was constituted in line with Section 38 of ARCON Act No 23 of 2022.

Other members are Charles Odenigbo; Moroof Aileru; Julie Jacks and Idorenyen Enang.

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, who spoke yesterday in Abuja during the tribunal’s inauguration, urged members to handle issues fairly.

He said government’s interest in boosting role and mandate of ARCON for effective regulation of advertising, advertisement and marketing communication in the country is premised on the fact that the industry holds enormous potential to influence the nation’s economic growth.

Justice Mojisola Olatoregun commended Director-General of ARCON, Dr. Lekan Fadolapo, for purposeful leadership.

Earlier, Fadolapo lauded the minister for his commitment to enhancing professionalism in the advertising sub-sector.

“While I am congratulating our industry and members of the panel for today’s landmark achievement, I will single out our minister for his pragmatism and commitment to up the game in the advertising industry. Under him, the industry has witnessed the most entrenched reform, which has redefined practice and boost professionalism,” he said
