2023: Allow me to pick my successor – Buhari begs APC Governors

Ahead of the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential primary election, President Muhammadu Buhari has sought the support of the governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as he takes charge to direct the processes that will produce the party’s presidential candidate.

The President, who appealed to the governors of the party during a meeting with them and the National Chairman of the APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Tuesday, also noted that he would be a stronger influence on the affairs of the party henceforth, in order to provide the needed direction for a smooth process.

Buhari had met with the 22 governors and the party’s Chairman to firm up arrangements against the presidential primaries of the party, which had been scheduled to hold between Monday, June 6 and Wednesday 8, next week.

According to Buhari, the state governors were given the opportunity to pick their successor, asking them to allow him do same at the federal level.

Buhari said, “In keeping with the established internal policies of the Party and as we approach the Convention in a few days, therefore, I wish to solicit the reciprocity and support of the Governors and other stakeholders in picking my successor, who would fly the flag of our party for election into the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2023.

The governors are considered to be a critical factor in deciding the life and survival of the ruling party, as they had in the past been crucial to decisions and actions that had proven key to the shaping of developments and events.
